They had agreed, that if Lama Ole ever became fat that he would have to become a monk.
Laughs erupt and confusion on the translator’s face as she tries to decide if she understood correctly. Rinpoche's budding smile grows and grows across his face, and we know it to be true. Huge laughs from everyone, they can’t believe it! Yes he attests, they had agreed, and Ole reminded him of this when they met each other in Spain for the first time. He then casually glances up to Ole’s portrait on the wall and waves his finger saying, "I'm always checking in on you ". Huge laughs again, people still don't believe it. Rinpoche is beaming, his natural humour showing through, as he watches the crowd, nodding his head in confirmation. He waits a moment, then looks out over everyone and with a completely serious face asks:" If Lama Ole becomes a monk, then you all will become monks and nuns, yes?" Huge laughter and applause, people are crying they're laughing so hard. Rinpoche once again glances up to Ole’s photo, laughs to himself, then gives the crowd a big double thumbs up. "Promise is promise". It's too much for everyone as the room erupts again in laughter, I have never seen such a thing in a dharma teaching. And then effortlessly switching gears he gave an immensely powerful Dorje Sempa Empowerment this afternoon to a crowd of 1500, radiating his Vajra presence like a shining diamond. The contrast is so extreme I’m reeling from it still. This is a real Dharma master. This is the one and only Jamgyon Kontrul Rinpoche.
