Chengdu - A Brilliant Reflection

We are now in the city of Chengdu - just across the border from Tibet, another shining city full of artificial light and traffic, noise and frenzied activity, our home for just a few days before we make our last stop of the tour in Kunming tomorrow. What an amazing trip this has been, like a dream, each place so different and unique, Chogyal Rinpoche and I both feel like it’s all somehow melted together into one intensely vivid yet surreal experience from start to finish - making it difficult enough to match exact details to the city from which they came.

Rinpoche teaches during the day, in groups ranging in number from a private few to larger meetings and everything in between. Then we rush on to the next place, in and out of taxis and tuktuks, in a never ending rollercoaster that we have come to call our lives for the moment. Some nights, like last night, we are lucky enough to have a few hours free where we spent the evening running around the city center together taking some night shots, exploring this crazy universe we are in, and taking in the wild, colorful and somewhat exotic food choices that surround us here. This is an amazing country, one that deserves a lot more time in each place to fully comprehend and take in all that it has to offer, but this trip just isn’t so, but we’ll take what we can get. It is too early to reflect on everything we have seen, everything that we have been through, time will be needed to allow it all to sink in fully. The wash of tech and busy electric energy is everywhere, but there is a deeper and more tradition steeped story here that begs to be told. Reflecting light against a sky full of brilliant color and flashing neon will be the limit for today, as the city flies by down below in a mad rush of blending, twirling light that seems to go on forever cascading into the night.
