Thousands of friends, Karmapa, Lama Ole, Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, empowerments, teachings, huge crowds and blessings abound; such is the nature of the Summer Course.

Europe Center - Beauty In The Details

It passes so quickly, I rarely get to spend much time talking or seeing anyone, always racing around, the whole experience is but a blur of light, sound and heat.

It is epic. We measure things by their flagship moments: the welcome ceremony with Thugsey, The Mahakala empowerment with Sherab Gyaltsen, Ole’s Lama Shang, or Karmapa’s phenomenal teaching are all enough on their own, despite the fact that they all happened during the same course. By the end of it all my head is spinning and I’m not sure what to look at or focus on, or what to photograph. I cannot seem to focus on the grandiose - though there is plenty - my eyes seem to drift towards the little details that might otherwise have been missed. Framed in grandeur, they are highlights in the mist of chaos and energy. Light peering around the sides of shimmering crimson and gold, shadow and silhouette, the tinniest wisps of color in a sea of pure white. These are the things that I see at the end of the road, the final hours, the closing minutes coming through my lens and into my heart. It’s easy to get lost in the grandiose, but real beauty is in the details. They are truly beautiful in a way the bigger things cannot be.

It has been an outrageously intense and powerful course, more than I dreamed of, and I feel I captured it in the only way I could. I leave you all with some grandiose of course, but also some details, to close out the collection in the only way I seem capable of at this time. I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did, I appreciate your letting me be as I am, for I know no other way. Farewell from the EC, until we meet again my friends.
