This city is amazing - it is so full of life and color, sounds ripping through the air like a blaring orchestra, blazing colored lights in all directions and in every color and shape imaginable, the smells drift aimlessly, wafting their way to me forming such a palate of senses and deliciousness it’s hard to take it all in at once. I am forever a lover of big cities.
I am drawn to their energy, their diversity, their culture, and their strong sense of independence and uniqueness from all other cities despite their blatant if not raring similarities. They are all unique, but they are all different, and if you take the time to explore them you can find just what makes each one so special. In the chaos there is calm and beauty. There is a heart center to a city, one that rises and falls like the tides of the ocean. They're never perfect, clean, tidy or neat. They are a wash of life and energy. Their intricacies and imperfections are their greatest qualities, for in the little details lies all the sweetest surprises.
Here in Hong Kong there are lights everywhere, and I mean everywhere. On every sign, lamp post, street corner, passing taxi and bus, they are covering everything, basking the entirety of the city in light and color. The lights are by far my favorite part. As the day goes down the city seems to come awake, breaking free from the shackles of daylight and rules, letting the true colors out to play as the landscape and environment takes on a whole new life after dark. It’s as if each passing minute as the sun goes down, the life spirit of the city comes further and further into visibility. The streets are packed with people. Jam packed. Staring up at the sky the glow of the buildings overtakes that of the sun, the mammoth skyscrapers and jetting skyline meeting the fading sunset is such a thing of beauty. It seems most are too busy staring at their phones or talking to friends to see what I am seeing, but maybe it is only because I am taking it all in for the first time. Hong Kong leaves me speechless and wanting more. I could get used to this. Hong Kong keeps me looking to the sky, watching as the day fades into night, and I am overwhelmed with feelings of comfort amidst the chaos.
