Sometimes the dark can be mesmerizing - the lack of light causes your eyes to blur and lose focus, to fade from what we may always see as reality and things start to blend and bend - into something wild and interesting. Our last night in Hong Kong, during a meditation with Chogyal Rinpoche in near pitch blackness, lit only by a few small candles and the light reflecting off his bell, I was caught in a moment of inspiration.
This wild ride, this whole trip has been a whirlwind, a non stop wave of movement followed by simple and more oftentimes short moments of calm in between. I struggle with how to accurately portray how I feel sometimes, and for some reason or another, these photos represent my mind this evening, exhausted yet wide awake and bright eyed, wild and unruly, yet open and calm. I am content in this wild madness. I am content in the endless motion. Groundlessness is a profound teaching in itself. The Garuda doesn’t look for a place to land but soars in the sky. As I drag myself back to bed, finally settling in after another long day, these images of painted night are a perfect reminder that each moment is what we make of it, and if we let ourselves just be in that moment, unruly and chaotic as they may be, it is just a moment, and there will always be another that precedes it momentarily. Good night Hong Kong, this evening your painted night is a mirror to my heart.
