This means having pure joy for all our actions, from the mundane to the exciting, no matter what.
Brush our teeth with joy. Wash our dishes and do our taxes with joy. Greet difficulties and experience all things with an open and joyful state of mind. He said that all things can be joyful, even pain. Especially pain. Pain is a great opportunity to realize beauty and impermanence. Pain gives way to inspiration and compassion. No matter how long something lasts it can be beautiful, even more so because of its temporary nature. And a long life without joy is simply longer, without any added benefits. We shouldn’t just wait around, wishing we had just a few more minutes, or days or years even, in the end we will be exactly where we are now. More hasn’t brought us anything. Instead, we should use this precious time we have to live with as much joy and enthusiasm as possible. What a profound teaching. I was nearly in tears along with the two thousand plus gathered for the empowerment of Amitiyus today. He spoke directly from the heart. Despite the intense heat, broken sound system and droning noise he reached out to every single person and touched them deeply and profoundly. It was beautiful. Of course I am poorly paraphrasing him as I lack the ability on many levels to even try and comprehend exactly what he’s really saying to us - but this was utter simplicity. It was exactly what I needed to hear, what we all need to hear I’d imagine. We don’t need more, we just need to make the best of what we have, and to treat every moment of our lives as an opportunity to have great joy for this precious life.
Always live with joy in your hearts my friends, for every opportunity no matter how good or bad - is a perfect excuse to be joyful!
