Kathmandu is a land of endless possibilities. Waking up here I feel at home.

Kathmandu - Days Such As These

The dust, the traffic, the wild energy that somehow calms the soul, the countless endeavors that each day brings with it, it’s like no other place on earth. It is both vast and comfy, a place where a single day could bring almost anything with it, and usually does. One day could start at Shar Minub, listening to teachings from Jigme Rinpoche, gathered around Shamar Rinpoche’s stupa in one of the most powerful and beautiful rooms in the world. One could do kora around its golden form and feel the physical presence of Shamarpa emanating out in all directions. While there one would spend precious time with Jigme Rinpoche - who not only was the first person to really believe in me and trust me to document Dharma activity, but is also a fabulous teacher and a joy to be around. (Shar Minub is a land of dreams, and it’s really staggering to see how far it has come). One could also go to Kirtipur for a surprise Mahakala empowerment with Dupseng Rinpoche. One could bask in the warmth, humor, and power that Rinpoche brings to everything, he is one of the most genuine and gentle-hearted beings you could possibly find in this world. You could also be extremely impressed with all the nuns gathered in his monastery, with their utter devotion and amazing hospitality - one can definitely see the qualities of a teacher reelected in their students and the home they keep. One could enjoy any of these things, but only in Kathmandu could you experience all of this in one day. And not just some special day, an average Wednesday will do the trick. Every day here is special. Every day here is a gift. With days such as these how could one ask for more?
