His charity work alone brings most country’s lone efforts to shame, as he traverses the world spreading his message of love and understanding. He walks across India picking up garbage. He rescues animals. He bicycles everywhere for months at a time educating villages and locals. He empowers women, especially in Buddhism unlike anyone I have ever seen. His nuns travel the world with him, they trek, teach, educate and even practice kung-fu to teach other women about self respect, discipline and compassion. I was completely blown away at his teaching today, in his monastery in the hills outside of Swayambhu, just recently re-opened after being devastated in the earthquake. He speaks about Dharma in a blindingly honest and open way, while his style of speaking (and his English) are so crystal clear and understandable I have yet to really hear another teach like this. He uses his genuine humor and honesty to reel you in, and then with direct understanding and experience he speaks from the heart about living life with the sole purpose of helping others. He talks about the “Heart of Complete Freedom” where we are actually free from our concepts, limitations, fears and spiritual blocks to live a life where our heart is what decides where we go and what we will do with our time on this planet. This is what our world sorely needs. This is a man who walks the walk, and truly Lives to Love.
