Spending time with Lodro Rinpoche is one of the highlights of my time in Nepal. Every year I stay at his house, we have breakfast together, talk Dharma and just hang out.

Kathmandu - The Man & The Mountain

He is one fo the coolest and most genuine people I know, not to mention a wonderful teacher, and a beacon of Dharma activity for the Karma Kagyu. He is just so him, with his shining smile and deeply generous nature. I just love spending time with him. Sometimes we even go on adventures together. So immediately after arriving from Indonesia he asked me if I would like to make a trip to a mountain village with him, and I jumped at the opportunity. He told me it would be a rather small thing, “just a short puja and we come home” kind of thing. Instead, it was up at dawn, driving way up into the mountains to a small village that is building a new temple. Eight lamas from NALA Dhagpo Sheydroup Ling came to assist in the smoke puja and consecration of the construction. More than 300 villagers arrived to take part, then there were speeches, and afterwards Rinpoche blessed every single one of them. I will never forget how touched they were. What this milestone must mean to them. This temple will be the centerpiece of their lives, and by chance I get to witness that. Then they danced and sang, offered us some amazing home cooked food, and we inched our way home through grueling Kathmandu traffic to be back well after nightfall. It was amazing! I just love how the days here end up like this. You leave thinking one thing, and in the end it becomes so much more. You make memories that last a lifetime here, every single day. Just stepping out your door means an adventure is waiting. And when that day is spent with Rinpoche, you really never know what will happen - other than it being a day you’ll never forget.
