Kathmandu is a magical place where anything can happen.

Kathmandu - Three Days of Magic

Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche enters retreat in Pharping, and while doing his final kora Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche just shows up out of the blue.

They sat together for a while, laughing and chatting like old friends, and when they stood up to leave they found they had identical malas. They were passing them back and forth, inspecting them, laughing like kids, and finally, apparently deciding that Jamgon Rinpoche’s was somehow more powerful. Meanwhile in Swayambhu Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche leads eight back to back Nyungnye at the Manang Gompa packed with more than 3000 Nepalis. This incredible man has endless energy. Powering through 16 hour days non-stop. Making us all look bad, never taking a break for himself, never loosing his wondrous smile and never, ever stopping his praying. I will never not be completely blown away by him. Just a few hundred yards away, a four day Monlam in Buddha Park, led by none other than Shangpa Rinpoche and Lodro Rabsel Rinpoche. Several hundred monks, and foreigners from all around the world in a gleaming tent of light perched at the base of Swayambhu hill, chanting away together. And back at in Bouddha the stupa is more beautiful than ever...

And this is all only in the last three days… Kathmandu is really incredible. Everywhere you look, something magical is happening. The only trick is finding a way not to miss anything.
