We can only aim to control our own mind. We cannot cover the whole world in leather, this is impossible, but instead we can simply wear leather shoes and the end result is the same. Such is the way it is with mind. Let’s say you love to cook, it can be wonderful when you first start. Fresh and exciting. But then you begin to take it more seriously, you decide to be a professional, and it changes, the joyful freedom becoming structured work. The aspect of carefree has been lost. Our first time meeting a teacher can be the same. When we first meet our teacher it can be like this overwhelming joy, a bright flash of interest. But after that it requires commitment and work to continue, so then we must strive to try and see our connection in this fresh and joyful way. It is up to us to see the delight, and not allow our perceptions to color and change what is truly in front of us.
The Buddha didn't HAVE to save all sentient beings. He could have done whatever he wanted. But he chose to do what he loved, and for the right reasons. Not careless, but carefree.
