Even before the end of the empowerment I had to rush out to catch my flight, running like crazy as always and couldn’t even stay for the blessing.
Karmapa reassured us all that in fact the real blessing comes from the meditation, from your devotion, and from inside you. Perhaps the blessing water is just some water with saffron inside. “Perhaps it’s even tap water” he said with his trademark grin. We must remove our focus on some outside substance and instead look within. We stand in line for this “sacred” object but we should realize that the blessing really comes from inside us. I am almost always too busy or to rushed to take part in the “blessing line”. I can however tell you with absolute certainty that I never felt for a moment I missed anything at all. Just being in the room with a man such as Karmapa is more than I could possibly know what to do with. From the front or the back, the blessing is the same. From your home, or your cushion, no matter where you are in the world, the blessing is again the same. The real blessing is already inside us. And, let’s be honest, Karmapa is everywhere.
