Monlam 2014 - Day 1 - Of Sun and Rain

The opening day of Kagyu Monlam 2014 has arrived, and by 7am the temple grounds are full of people, excitedly awaiting the arrival of Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche and Beru Kyentse Rinpoche who will lead the prayers. Despite the fact that Karmapa has yet to arrive in Gaya the air is quite electric and everyone is full of energy and humor, smiles are everywhere as teachers and students see each other again for the first time, reunited again.

Morning mist surrounds, but as the end of the morning session approaches, so do the rain clouds and upon returning back from lunch we were all treated to a downpour for a rainy Monlam afternoon. An amazing start to the week, an amazing energy seems to be carried by all.
