While inside the Bodhi Temple - Monlam continues, another gorgeous day with the light playing off the trees causing warm shadows on the fields of robes and brocade.

Monlam 2014 - Day 3 - Offerings of Warmth

More and more are in attendance every day, the sound of sonorous chanting and birds chirping along make the scene most haunting and beautiful.

Outside the walls a very special event is taking place - the sponsor offering of blankets to hundreds of impoverished and unprivileged locals, and as one would expect it was a mad rush. Pushing and shoving, screaming and yelling, all with desperate attempts to get to the front of the line, with police and volunteers helping out to try and control the crowd. And yet, with all this movement and chaos, right in the middle of it all I witnessed some of the most radiant and happy faces I have ever seen. Such basic courage and happiness from those with so little, many happily jumping over each other for a chance to have their pictures taken, smiles leaping from their faces with such natural abandon. The event is a huge success as everyone present is afforded a new blanket, and as wave after wave pour in from the street I find myself blissing out - to me, this is such a wonderful experience to be a part of; and seeing these faces beaming back at me from such indigent and beggared lives, I can only feel like I am extremely blessed to be present - and alive.
