Seated upfront is Lama Teunsang, leading the practice for which he will give the initiation and empowerment tomorrow afternoon.
He is quite the individual indeed - his steely character and Khampa like warrior strength seems to fill the room, and yet his face is serene and gentle, so compassionate and kind. Once he broke from his deeply concentrated state, and to my surprise he raised his eyes slowly to look up at me. The smile that crossed his face was so beautiful I was deeply taken back. It was a look of such pure joy, something one doesn’t see often, nor are we really prepared for it. It was like being hit by a tidal wave of compassion, it just rolled over me entirely. So effortless too. What a rare gift. His gentle way seeming to dominate his entire being at all times, something I had been told often but never had the pleasure to experience myself. I can now verify this to be true and very real. With seeing this blazing joyous man in front of me I am beginning to understand why so many have come here to seek him out, to be near him, to study and learn with him - one can sense his gentle heart everywhere here and when he sets it upon you directly, it leaves an everlasting impression.
