We have such concepts and attachments to things, our schedules, and that which defines us that we oftentimes fail to see what is in front of us.
Myself most certainly included. There is always something to do, somewhere to go. Then sometimes there comes a break, a flash of openness. This week, as usual things got moved around and my plan and schedule was thrown to the wind. Instead of getting upset, seeing it as a loss of time, I took the opportunity for space, and flew to Prague for a 72 hour roundtrip when Sabchu Rinpoche was in town. He was in Prague at the invitation of Nala Foundation, my dear friends and Dharma family that are one of the main reasons I now call Prague home. I was supposed to be out of town for the event, but somehow space just moved things around and I was gifted these precious few days.
Rinpoche was fabulous, his mix of genuine humour and deep knowledge came through at his public teaching at a beautiful old church downtown, and then the next day he gave an empowerment in Nala’s headquarters, where he explained everything in such detail and humble nature that I was totally taken back. Two wonderful and sublimely intimate evenings offering such a contrast to the mega Dharma events I call norm. We even had time for a Dharma Studio shoot which I am so pleased to be able to share with you very soon. I could have easily just fumed and sat around waiting for nothing when things inevitably changed, but instead I had exactly the time I needed to rush home, shoot two events and a studio session, sleep a few hours and get back on a plane. It was the best decision I’ve made in a long time, and it presented itself entirely by mistake. I could have completely missed out on all of this. Instead I did my best to sit back, try to trust space, taking what came my way and feasting on the opportunities for more than I could have planned if I tried. I hope to be open to these types of things as often as they present themselves in the future, seeing them for what they are: a gift.
