This is a historic moment for Krasnoyarsk, for Lama Ole Nydahl and Diamond Way Buddhism in Russia - and for our most beloved Maniwa Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche as well. I was quite excited as this is the first time I’ve ever been allowed to see this all up close. Hands trembling, legs wobbling a bit; I’m still shaky and jet lagged from my turnaround arrival from Nepal late last night, so the lack of sleep and adrenaline might also be contributing to my general euphoria here today, but I digress. A beautiful sunny day with crisp clean air marks my first day in Russia. So far my view of this country has been blessings abound, lots of friends, and a side of very warm welcoming and hugs from everyone. Ole and Rinpoche were also visibly delighted, as was the crowd of onlookers. Bright cheerful faces and lots and lots of applause. The beautiful Buddha placed on his new throne, lots of applause. Standing atop the stupa as the tree was installed, looking down to the sea of cheering faces below I find my heart full. The tree is finally bolted down, everything fits, Wojtek is delighted. Again, cheers and hugs all around, flower petals thrown into the air, and why not - lots and lots of applause.
My most sincere congratulations to Wojtek whose work is incredible, and his dedication and devotion have been an inspiration to me since I first heard about him. Needless to say, he and his team live up to their glorious reputation. I am so honored to be here, and I just can’t wait to see what this month will bring. As always with this kind of group you never know what’s going to happen. I for one packed light and I’m ready for anything.
