On the road, days melt together. Like an oasis in the desert, some centers feel removed from everything—as if they are their own little planet.

Schwarzenberg - The Oasis

Schwarzenberg Center is such a place.

After the bustle of Europe Center, that vibrant energy of thousands, it felt as though we had left the world behind. Just a short drive away, and suddenly there were endless fields of green. Cows munching away, their bells ringing in the wind. Mountains caressing the sky.

The colors change here, deepening in hue, richer in saturation. A stupa nestles in the woods, its granite grey striking against the forest green.

I’m a city guy. Home is where I hang my hat, and the din and bright lights have always felt of home. But I will admit, I could get used to this kind of place. My shoulders relax, my nerves cool as I breathe in the sweet air swirling through here.

And the sunsets…

Breathtaking.

We spent only a short time there—a private event and a spontaneous evening teaching—but it left a great impression on me. And the people—my goodness. So much heart. Those few days were wonderful. Peaceful in a way rarely found in normal life.

And then, back to the van.

Onwards and upwards.

Who am I kidding? I love the road. But I’m learning to appreciate, even relish, the sweet and peaceful nature of an oasis such as this.

Balance is the key in life.

And I could do with a little more of that.
