His blue eyes sparkle when he’s excited, and being around him causes severe cases of smile overload and deep heart laughter. He is well dressed and exceedingly elegant. He speaks a myriad of languages, and I have yet to find a Lama who doesn’t confirm that he speaks Tibetan better than the Tibetans do. He doesn’t just speak the language, he learns it from the inside out, researching its history to properly understand each word and its root and origin. He chooses his words very carefully, as all wise men do, for they know the weight of what they say and its impact on those around them. He is a scholar as well as being a wonderful teacher. He is also a loving father and husband as well; something that can be lost in a world of robes and exotic ceremony. He is gentle and kind, with a softness to his voice and character that makes you feel right at home. The strong connection that France has with Tibetan Buddhism, it seems clear to me that he was the first to make this solid foundation, paving the way for more to follow. I count myself greatly fortunate to also call this great man my friend for many years - he was the one who wrote my name in the sand on a walk along the beach - to which my logo now joyfully carries his signature zeal. It has been such a honor, and always will be, to do whatever I can to support his work in the Buddha Dharma, for he is truly one of the great masters of our time.
