Color is of such great importance.

Under Nepalese Skies Continued

From a simple dash to overwhelming and vibrant, color can change so much in an instant, transporting the viewer to places not previously possible or attainable if the ordinary or conventional is preferred. I have always been such a huge fan of color, the shades and hues give such depth, and each has its own way of presenting its story - no two are alike and there is so much one can tell and feel with the adventure into color.

Leaving the normal path and venturing into uncharted territory can be rewarding, gaining possibilities and effects that can be so much more exciting and different from what you may have started with. Perhaps even revisiting an image later on can bring ideas and new insights to something you have already looked at, spent time with, gaining a new perspective and emotion on something previously left aside and deemed finished. Transforming day to night, sadness to uplifting joy or vice versa - shadows and shades of grey to glorious sunlit afternoons and clouds of purple and gold casually drifting through the sky for all to see.

In Boudhanath, a place that has long been a second home and a sense of wonder and inspiration for me since my youth, grips me with a sense of exploration each time I walk through the gates, like coming home to find that something has been changed and the adventure is to seek it out, playfully revisiting each corner and detail as if it were the first time. The colors here are remarkable - prayer flags adorn the skies in all directions, the white washed stupa casting sunlit reflections on everything and everyone, the crowds of Kora doers, churning around the great stupa like a clock, never ceasing, completely undisturbed and seemingly cheerfully aware that while the world in all its problems and difficulties continues to spin alongside it - here is a place of prayer and devotion, and for the time spent here we are making wishes for all.

For under these Nepalese skies, with clouds of purple and glowing orange gold, with prayers flowing in the wind like a beautiful voice hangs in the air, the great stupa stands everlasting in the sunlight - or moonlight - inviting all who gaze upon it to spend some time around its base; for myself and many others, it is like coming home.
