Like a tidal wave, the heat almost knocked me to the floor. A wafting wind, thick and drenched with humidity, rolled over us. It was beautiful. I love this country more and more. Where else can one have a foot in the jungle, the other on blazing concrete, and their head poking into a glowing shrine room brimming with cascading lines of golden Buddhas and swirling LED lights? It’s like another world—a world of wonder.
Compared to the cities we’ve been in, SP is a relative village of sorts. Only a few hours from Thailand, they've been waiting a long time for His Holiness to return. Twenty years, in fact! Patience is a virtue, and they have kept the fire alive all this time. I’ll never get tired of writing about the Malaysian people; they are so kind, generous, and deeply caring. Melting in the heat as they lined the streets awaiting Karmapa’s arrival, I dare anyone to find happier faces—more enthralled, more excited. It makes my job easy: just point and shoot. Everywhere you look, people are glowing. The colors are vibrant, the sun is bright, casting its warmth over everything in golden hues and blazing saturation.
What a place! More to come, my friends. More to come.
